Terms of service
These terms govern your use of mauviel.co.za and any order you place through it. They are written to be read, not to be survived.
1. Who you are dealing with
mauviel.co.za is owned and operated by Culinary Equipment Company (Pty) Ltd, the official South African stockist for Mauviel1830.
- Registered name: Culinary Equipment Company (Pty) Ltd
- Company registration number: [ ]

“We”, “us” and “our” mean that company. “You” means the person placing the order. Mauviel1830 is the manufacturer in France and is not a party to your contract with us.
2. These terms, and when they apply
By placing an order you accept these terms as they read on the day you order. We may change them, but a change never applies backwards to an order already placed. The version that governs your purchase is the one published at the time of your order, and we keep the dated versions.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002, or any other law that cannot be contracted out of. Where a term conflicts with those Acts, the Acts win and the rest of these terms stand.
3. Prices
All prices are in South African rand and include VAT at 15%. Delivery is shown separately at checkout before you pay.
We price carefully but errors happen. If a price is obviously wrong — a copper batterie listed at a hundredth of its value, for instance — we will contact you before processing the order and you may confirm at the correct price or cancel for a full refund. We will not simply ship at an error price, and we will not simply take your money and go quiet.
Prices can change without notice, but never after you have paid.
4. Your order, and when a contract exists
Adding an item to your basket is not an order. Placing an order is an offer to buy. The contract comes into existence when we send you an order confirmation, and only for the items in it.
We may decline an order — if the item is no longer available, if the price was wrong, if we cannot deliver to the address, or if we suspect fraud. If we decline after payment we refund in full.
5. Made-to-order goods
Most of the copper range and every set is made in Normandy after you order it. Where a product page says a piece is made to order, ordering it authorises us to commission its manufacture to your order.
Once production has started the order cannot be cancelled or returned, as permitted by section 20(2)(d) of the Consumer Protection Act for goods made to a consumer’s specification. Before production starts you may cancel for a full refund. Our returns policy sets this out in full and forms part of these terms.
6. Payment
Payment is taken at checkout through our payment providers. We do not receive, process or store your card details; that is done by the provider on their systems.
Goods remain our property until payment has cleared in full.
7. Delivery
We deliver within South Africa by insured courier. Delivery outside South Africa is by arrangement and quotation before you order.
Delivery estimates are estimates. Stock items normally dispatch within two working days. Made-to-order pieces normally take six to eight weeks from order to delivery, and that depends on the factory’s production schedule and on freight, neither of which we control. We will tell you if a date moves.
Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery. Someone must be present to sign. If a delivery fails because nobody was there, a second attempt may be charged at cost.
If we cannot deliver within 30 days of the estimate we gave you, and no new date has been agreed with you, you may cancel and we will refund you in full.
8. Returns and your cooling-off right
Set out in full on our returns page, which forms part of these terms. In summary: 7 days on stock items, unused and in original packaging, at your carriage cost; made-to-order pieces are not returnable once in production; anything faulty, damaged or wrong is collected and replaced or refunded at our cost.
9. Guarantee and liability
Mauviel guarantees its cookware against manufacturing defect for the lifetime of the product. That guarantee, and your rights under sections 55 and 56 of the Consumer Protection Act, are set out on the returns page.
Cookware gets hot and holds heat. Use it as intended and as instructed. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for damage caused by misuse, by heating a pan empty, by thermal shock, by dishwasher use on pieces marked hand-wash only, or by abrasive cleaning. Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Product information
We take care with specifications, dimensions and capacities, and they are taken from the manufacturer’s own published data. Dimensions are nominal and hand-finished pieces vary slightly. Colour on a screen is not colour in a kitchen, and copper darkens from the day it is made.
Where a description is materially wrong and you have relied on it, tell us and we will put it right.
11. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login details to yourself and for anything done through your account. Tell us if you think it has been used by somebody else. We may suspend an account we reasonably believe is being used fraudulently.
12. Privacy
We process your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 and our privacy policy. In short: we collect what we need to fulfil your order and to answer you, we do not sell it, and you may ask us what we hold and ask us to correct or delete it.
13. Intellectual property
Mauviel, Mauviel1830, M’Héritage, M’Cook, M’Passion, M’Steel and the associated marks belong to Mauviel1830. The text, photography and layout of this site belong to us or to Mauviel1830 and may not be reproduced commercially without written permission.
14. If something goes wrong
Tell us first. Most problems are solved in one email, and we would rather fix a thing than argue about it. If we cannot resolve it between us, you may refer the matter to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud or to the National Consumer Commission.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
