Art Déco is the house’s design line, developed by Adrien Lucien Marchand with the boilermakers at Villedieu-les-Poêles. The brief was pieces that do not change register between the hob and the table — no serving dish required, no apology for what the food arrived in.

Round and oval pans in copper with stainless interiors, or in stainless throughout. Low, wide, with the flat asymmetric handles that give the collection its name.

A Mauviel craftsman at the bench in Villedieu-les-Poeles

The town has worked copper since the twelfth century. Mauviel opened there in 1830 and has not moved since. Sheet copper arrives flat in four thicknesses and leaves as a pan: rolled, cut, spun over a wooden chuck, planished by hand where the shape asks for it, then tinned or lined with stainless steel.
