A set is not a discount. It is a decision you only have to make once.
Choose a set if you are fitting out a kitchen, furnishing a second home, or giving something that will not be replaced.
Mauviel builds its batteries the way a kitchen is actually stocked: a small and a large saucepan for sauces and grains, a sauté pan for anything that starts in fat and finishes in liquid, a frying pan, and the lids that fit them. The five-piece sets are a complete working kitchen. The twelve- and sixteen-piece sets are a kitchen that never needs anything else.
The saving is real but it is not the point. The point is that every piece in the set is the same metal, the same gauge and the same handle, so they stack, they share lids, and they behave identically on the hob. Buying piece by piece over five years rarely ends up that coherent.
Sets are made to order. Allow six to eight weeks from Normandy — these are not pulled off a shelf.

The town has worked copper since the twelfth century. Mauviel opened there in 1830 and has not moved since. Sheet copper arrives flat in four thicknesses and leaves as a pan: rolled, cut, spun over a wooden chuck, planished by hand where the shape asks for it, then tinned or lined with stainless steel.
